A busy few days

We've had a busy few days.
The horse dentist came on wednesday for their 6 monthly check-up. All's well and not a lot of treatment necessary.
I had a lovely afternoon yesterday over at Trudi's, a good lunch and a good natter!
This morning I had two lovely sessions. First with Remy, who was as receptive and focussed as I've ever known him to be. He gave me some lovely steps of shoulder-in, both on the circle and on the straight line, plus the best trot transitions we've ever had. Just the transitions, basically one or two steps before I clicked him good boy. We did half a dozen transitions like this on each rein and he gave me a soft, round transition every time.
I then took Bonbon up to the school, and following a short lunge session, we continued the basics in ridden work of walk/halt transitions and lots of small circles and changes of rein. She was a little distracted, but after a few minutes she settled and started to listen.
Andrea came over this afternoon and we had a good chat while going over some admin for the group.

It's been a lovely sunny day and I've enjoyed it very much.

Dentist time

We had a day off on Sunday, but back in the school yesterday with Remy. Something was going on in his mouth, he was working ok, but over-salivating.
We worked at walk on figures of eights, shoulder-in to counter shoulder-in, which he managed ok, and on squares, shoulder-in to travers, which was tricky,but the travers is definitely improving.
His rein-back is becoming more fluid and straighter, he doesn't seem to be throwing his inside hind out like he did.
His trot transitions were pretty good, more active into a better balanced trot, which he managed to keep for longer. All-in-all a really good session.
It couldn't have been better timing as the equine dentist was booked in for today. He seemed to think that the recently erupted wolf tooth may be causing problems as it had become very sharp. He smoothed it back to the gum, so, for now it will be fine - we'll see if it needs any more attention next appointment. Apart from that, he gave Remy a clean bill of dental health, so we'll see how he is next time I ride.

A really great session with Bonbon yesterday, sitting-on with Jim leading her, circles on both reins, lots of halt and walk transitions. She was really attentive and responsive in my hand. First attempt at reinback, which was nice and soft. Really pleased with her.
A little star also with the dentist, calm and relaxed (well, as relaxed as she could be with a bloody great chunk of metal holding her jaws open!), I'm so proud of her, little sweetie.

Happy hens, happy teeth

We let them into their new run today and after a little hesitation they scooted down to the grass and stayed there all day. This is the run down to the trees at the bottom which were being eaten to death by the horses, now nice and safe, protected by the fence.

I don't think they could believe that we'd actually opened the pop-hole for them.

Yes!!!!!

The equine dentist came today and they were all very well behaved. Remy had quite a bit of work but was stoic, standing quietly with a resigned look on his face. Bonbon had a light rasp. The last time he came (6 months ago) she had no work done, he just introduced her to the gag and the baby rasp so she did really well. Corky was pretty much ok and Anky needed no work at all. All in all a good result.

We started Anky on the colostrum today, 100ml. The vet recommended 3/4oz (about 100ml) 3 times per day so that's what we're going to do.

Horse Dentist

We had the horse dentist today and I'm pleased to say that all the horses were well behaved and Remy and Bonbons teeth are developing normally.

Anky's droppings are more or less back to normal now and she's been quite perky the last few days. They've been shut out of the front field for a few weeks because the acorns were falling so today we let them back in. An added bonus is that the field is quite sparse because it's been so dry, so not the usual lush grass (great for Anky).
